Canberra Airport Stoush Trifecta!
The ABC uses the word:
Senator Heffernan was involved in a verbal stoush with NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash at Canberra Airport yesterday.
As does the Australian:
Labor says Prime Minister John Howard must discipline Senator Heffernan for a public stoush at Canberra airport yesterday in which he told Senator Nash to “blow it out her backside”.
And we can multiply our dividends upon reading the Sydney Morning Herald:
The stoush follows Senator Nash’s threats to never again put the government ahead of hr party when voting in the Senate after the Liberals welcomed Senator McGauran into their party.
Stoush! Stoush! Stoush!
UPDATE: In Steve Lewis’ editorial on AWB:
But it’s not just the stoush between the wounded Nationals and their Liberal brethren. There is the appearance of a policy vacuum after the reform helter skelter of last year.

I told you that the Nationals might begin to flex their balance of power muscle. Nothing that John Howard struggles to fix anyway.

Viva la Stoushalanche!
(And I have a dynamic IP address, which seems to kinda undermine the whole registration process by telling me I’m not me. Can someone handy with the back end kill my registration so I’m free to be me again, please? Tks)

To be honest the only thing I think that’s kept the National Party alive outside of the Queensland State Parliament in the last ten years is the Coalition deal to prevent three-corner contests. They’d be stupid to start fighting over right-wing seats with the Liberals, the only beneficiaries would be conservative independents like Andren and Tuckey.

i say we launch a campaign to purge the dictionary of such dull words as ‘fracas’ and other similarly lifeless words and replace them with the solid, staccato, monosyllabic ‘stoush’.

I’m partial to the wonderful noun/verb melée myself. Especially with conscience votes coming up in both houses of Parliament.
Now then, no biting, scratching or punching below the belt. I call for a division.

Sounds like they’re entirely missing the point, don’t you think Evil? I think when it’s up and running we should go and educate them on the Way Of The Stoush (stoush-ki-do).

I’ve always liked “fracas” - as in “I kicked him right in the fracas.”
Slightly OT, some scriptwriters once competed to see who write the shortest but most expensive scene directions. The winner was “The fleets meet.”

Liam, who came up with Stoush again??

Tuckey an independent ? And can they replace the annoying “clash” to describe every sporting event with “stoush” ?
Liam wrote:
Quite right Russell. I was thinking of Tony Windsor.

russell: a great idea - i’m going to the derby stoush between the jets and the mariners on friday night, and i’d love to hear it described as a stoush across the board from here on…
