The news all over the radio this morning is that former ABC presenter, Maxine McKew, will be the Labor candidate for Bennelong. As we all know, Bennelong is the now marginal seat of one John W. Howard PM.

I had heard rumours that there would be a “star” candidate for Bennelong, but the name floating around was that of a famous cricketer, not ABC personality.

It is refreshing to see Labor put celebrity candidates in marginal seats, rather than safe ones (cf. Mary Delahunty, Peter Garret, etc).

I also understand that the “Not Happy John” campaign will also be run again in Bennelong by Valder.

Looks like Howard will have a battle on his hands.
